Tracery is a tangle from CZT® Dianne Krumnow – one of the many CZTs in the fine state of Ohio – and this is her first on the site.
This tangle pattern was inspired by a portion of a stained glass window in Dianne’s church. She writes,”Once a person becomes enthusiastic about the practice of Zentangle®, they notice patterns everywhere.”
Patterns are indeed everywhere and all are fun to deconstruct. However, the real challenge is finding tangles amongst the many patterns we observe around us – as Maria reminds us, “A pattern is not always a tangle.”
Dianne introduces herself:
“I am a former elementary teacher living in Central Ohio. With teaching, in my blood, I enjoy sharing the Zentangle experience with anyone who will pick up a Micron and give it a try. Finding and deconstructing patterns from my community has become a fun part of my tangling experience.”
Tracery is a very flexible tangle and I used a variation in my example.
Dianne illustrates in the steps for drawing Tracery here [link no longer valid] on her blog. You’ll also see there a photo of her pattern inspiration, a completed Zentangle, and suggestions for several variations and other ways to use the pattern.
Update August 2020: Dianne’s blog has gone missing in the “webisphere” so until I obtain updated information, here for your convenience are Dianne’s step-by-step instructions and the variations for Tracery she featured on her blog.
Dianne’s suggestions for Tracery variations:
