Three new Design Originals Zentangle® titles

Zentangle 7It must be getting near holiday season because Zentangle® books from a variety of publishers are coming at us thick and fast. Get your Christmas shopping done early and easily 🙂

Design Originals are releasing three new titles: Zentangle 7 – Inspiring Circles, Zendalas & Shapes, Zentangle 8 – Monograms and Alphabets, and The Joy of Zentangle.

I don’t have copies yet, but from the previews I’ve seen The Joy of Zentangle is Fox Publishing’s repackaging of three of Design Originals’ previous publications. Suzanne McNeill, Sandy Bartholomew and Maria Browning are contributors and it contains 101 tangles that have appeared in the earlier titles. If you already have the complete Design Originals Zentangle library, be sure to check this book out thoroughly to avoid duplication of something you already have. Otherwise, this could be a great way to get 3 books for the price of one and introduce family and friends to (wait for it) … the joy of Zentangle.

Zentangle 7 (16 pages, lists at $8.99 and is available for pre-order)  – description from the publisher: “Bring your Zentangles full circle with 40 new tangle patterns and ideas for making beautiful Zendalas. Talented Certified Zentangle Teachers share their tips and designs for using watercolors and circular stencils, making mini Zendalas on metal rim tags, creating a Zendala spinner, or using the pre-strung tiles.  Following the step-by-step instructions, you’ll find the process of Zentangle to be simple and truely relaxing.”

Zentangle 8 (16 pages, lists at $8.99 and is available for pre-order, November 1) – description from the publisher: “Elegant letters are the perfect way to personalize a greeting card, stationery or a memorable gift. Turn mundane mail into envelopes that promise something really special. Send special tangled thank-you notes and enclosure cards for showers, weddings and baby announcements. Using the relaxing process of Zentangle, you can create unique letters with stunning details and sumptuous backgrounds – one tangle at a time. You’ll be amazed as delightful designs flow beautifully from your hand.” Includes another 40 patterns.

The Joy of Zentangle (144 pages, lists at $24.99 and is available from Amazon for $14.99) –  description from the publisher: “Zentangle® is an easy-to-learn method of pattern drawing that reduces stress while promoting creativity. This book will introduce readers to the basic theory of Zentangle and provide instructions for drawing over 100 tangle patterns from such Certified Zentangle Teachers as Suzanne McNeill, Sandy Steen Bartholomew, and Marie Browning. This beautiful book is filled with examples of Zentangle drawings as well as other art projects and compelling stories from those who have improved their well-being through Zentangle.”

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.
