How to draw FÜNF

Fünf is German for “five” and a fun name for this 5-pointed star-motif tangle pattern from Albuquerque, NM, CZT® Denise Rudd.

Fünf is her first pattern on TanglePatterns.com and she writes, “It has its roots in my childhood, when I had a lot of difficulty drawing a five-pointed star.”

Denise started with a Y-shape, “decided to add arms and an aura, and there were my stars, and they were pretty consistent.” For those of you similarly star-challenged, Denise’s steps will having you seeing stars in no-time flat. Fünf has a lot of potential for variations within and around the star shapes.

“I am an art resource teacher for my day job, and one of my duties is to provide our 47 itinerant art teachers here in Albuquerque with professional development. While doing some research for a workshop on Artist Trading Cards, this funny little word popped up (I am the type that if i don’t know what it means, I look it up – in this case I Googled it…) and that led me to zentangle.com. I was immediately mesmerized, and ordered myself a kit which started my addiction. I attended the 4th CZT training in Whitinsville, MA – even being 5 months pregnant couldn’t keep me away! It was one of the most valuable experiences I have ever had professionally and in my own journey as an artist. I am so happy to be part of such a helpful and creative group, and under the guidance of two people who seem to not only love what they do, they love to share it with us.“
