How to draw SEIZE

Hello again my friends and welcome back for some lovely tangle inspiration. I hope your weekend was nice and relaxing …

Our super easy Monday tangle is perfect for adding visual texture and dimension to your Zentangle® tiles. Seize is from NY CZT Jody Genovese and she’s always good for a bit of word play, as you’ll get in a moment. Seize is Jody’s 27th tangle on the site, be sure to check out all of them!

I’ve taken the liberty of enlarging Jody’s examples from her steps because they deserve to be appreciated in a bigger format.

Jody writes,

Seize came about as I was practicing letter forms for a class I am participating in on loving my imperfect letters … aptly named. As I was doing the strokes I zoned out and started tangling a bit on the opposite side of my notebook and Seize started to appear.

I named Seize as such because it is totally made up of the ‘C’ shape both forward and backward.

Even the orbs are created by doing the rounding with the C shape and filling in the interstices. It seemed appropriate.

My shading of Seize isn’t anywhere near as lovely as Jody’s examples, I especially like her Bijou. That old shading tip of making a splotch of graphite on a spare sheet of paper to use as a graphite palette for your tortillion can be very helpful when you just need a touch.

Here you can more easily see the detail of Jody’s Step 5 and how, as she explains, “Even the orbs are created by doing the rounding with the C shape and filling in the interstices.”
