How to draw ELI

Hello my tangling friends, good to see you again … and it’s the weekend, yay! 🙂

For your tangling pleasure Spanish CZT Carmen Varela Trigo shares her cool Eli tangle with us today.

At first glance Eli might look complicated but in a few simple steps you have a lovely woven chain-like tangle that makes a great frame for your tile or a focal point in it, or it can float like a ribbon across and through other tangles.

Carmen shares how she came up with Eli:

I deconstructed this tangle from a photo of an old balcony.

I think it’s easy to make, even though when you see it, you don’t know how to start, and it’s a lot of fun to draw.

Its name is a dedication to a very, very special person for me, with whom I share space on a daily basis, but that circumstances want us to follow different paths.

I wish her all the best in this new stage. Eli, I will miss you!

It took me a few practice runs and I found that for me the trickiest part of Eli was Step 6 where you join the “threads” underneath. I’ve enlarged the step here so you can see it a little better.

Carmen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Eli below and she includes beautiful tiles featuring her tangle. It’s especially striking on the colored tiles, n’est-pas?
