Greetings friends, welcome back to a brand new week of fresh tangle inspiration!
We’re just a couple of weeks away from Valentine’s Day so for those of you who love to create Zentangle®-inspired cards for the occasion, here’s another heart tangle to get your planning underway. Be sure to check out our significant resource of sweet heart tangles!
And this is my official last call for heart tangle submissions for publication before Valentine’s Day! Please email them to me this week. (Visit the SUBMIT YOUR PATTERN page for how to’s.)
Maryland CZT Barbara Duel Johnson is back today with her simple and lovely Heart Spray tangle.
If I’m counting correctly, Heart Spray is Barbara’s 24th tangle on the site!
She shares her ideas on ways you can use Heart Spray in your Zentangle® art,
I thought that this tangle seems sort of like an organic one.
It can be used as such, or if you drew four of them, and put them stem to stem, it could be bursting, on a Zendala.
My example of Heart Spray is minimalist unadorned but Barbara’s tiles below show two cool ways to play with dressing it up. I can also envision shiny, sparkly ZIA versions with those delightful glittery Gelly Roll pens. BTW another fun way to add sparkle to your ZIA’s is with a Zig Wink of Stella Brush, the Clear version adds shimmer wherever you want it without adding color and it also comes in a set of three including Silver and Gold.
Barbara illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Heart Spray below and features it in two Bijou-sized ZIA tiles, one with Fescu embellishments and the second with Beadlines.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
