How to draw PINKIRT

And welcome back for the first of our inspiration of tangles for September! A super easy and surprisingly versatile one.

As those of you who’ve been with me for a few years might recall me writing that Labor Day is considered the peak of our region’s hurricane season. The Atlantic Ocean has been heating up over the summer months and – like a pot on the boil – is just about bubbling by September, the engine feeding all that storm energy. As long time (4o years!) Florida residents, as much a habit as taking our daily vitamins, we check the Hurricane Center’s website on a daily basis from June 1 through December to monitor our outlook. I almost hate to say this, but (touch wood) so far this year we have been so incredibly blessed with absence of storms in our neighborhood. We hold our breath and pray 2024 lays quietly snoozing – a bit of a mystery given how super hot this summer has been.

All righty then … Our super easy ribbon-style tangle for this holiday weekend is Pinkirt from Florida CZT Jacki Rose. Pinkirt is her fifth tangle on the site, most recently we explored her sweet Carrieluv.

When you want an uncomplicated frame for your tile or perhaps a ribbon of a tangle around other tangles, Pinkirt is a good one to have handy. And it’s a perfect blank slate for embellishing fun.

Jacki’s inspiration was very simple and very simply described:

I admired a pink shirt that someone was wearing with a pattern that resembles this.

In the end I decided to use a straightforward version for my example but did I explore several ways to play with Pinkirt by varying the spacing between the squares/rectangles as well as varying and alternating their sizes and doing the same with the loops. Lots of fun experiments there.

Jacki illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Pinkirt below and in her example tile she explores some ways it can be embellished for variations. Fills, shading, rounding, ZIA color … have fun!

I had a lovely holiday playing around with this sweet ribbon tangle and it’s so delightful! Lots to play with and explore – and working with it larger sized gives lots of room for added embellishments. thanks for sharing <3
