How to draw ARROWTREE

It’s back-to-school time in this neck of the woods and the start of a new year when many more young minds and hands will be introduced to the marvel that is the art of Zentangle®.

Today’s super easy Arrowtree tangle is a fun one for any tangler of any age to explore.

Arrowtree comes from New Jersey CZT Ellen Weinman and it’s her first on the site.

Ellen introduces herself and her tangle,

I am a retired Occupational Therapist from Rockaway, NJ, who traded in her CHT (certified hand therapist) for her CZT a year ago (CZT#37). I started tangling about a year before that, after getting some books and taking some online classes. I was always interested in art, and I have always done a lot of hand crafts; macrame, leather tooling, crochet, sewing, embroidery, you name it!

But I really wanted something that involved drawing, and Zentangle provided the structure, meditation and simplicity I needed.

I have been having a lot of fun taking classes with some great CZTs … [and began] playing around with different botanical ideas….and that lead to Arrowtree!

Ellen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Arrowtree below where she features it in a duotangle tile with the Zentangle-original Pangea lightly penciled for the background.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Ellen – Thanks for your simple tangle, Arrowtree. And also for your sample tile with the Zentangle original, Pangea, as a fill. This gives me ideas for my lightest gray pens.

Laughing at myself here; I was diagnosed just this past Thursday with a cataract, which will be surgically in about two months. In the meantime, my vision is such that trying to get lines to connect in my drawings is a comedy of errors. It’s a good thing that my favorite kind of drawings to work on is cartoons, because now my tangles are looking very much like Dr. Seuss did them (not as good as that wonderful artist did his work, of course!)
I just drew Arrowtree, and had to laugh at the offline lines, and the way nothing meets where it should 😀

This tangle looks like fun. I can see using it as a ‘fill’. Thank you.
