For some reason this song sprung to mind as I sat down at the keyboard – “Monday, Monday“. Classic song by The Mamas and The Papas.
If you find yourself humming this today, you know where it came from 😉
Today’s sweet, exuberant Core tangle is from our long-time friend Beth Snoderly who has so many great tangles on the site. And Core has also been waiting patiently in my archives for a very long time to make its debut.
Core seems very festive to me, I can picture it all ZIA-glittery in Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust pens …
Beth describes how she came up with Core and how it gets its name:
“This is a fun one for me to draw. I was playing with angled squares and started looping the top like a lowercase ‘y’ and the bottom like a lowercase ‘h’ with vertical sides. Then I hooked them together and Core was born.
It is a easy and fun tangle to play with. There are so many ways to decorate and get many different looks.
My hubby helped name it as he said it reminded him of an apple core.”
Core is so easy to do and you can make it wander around the tile as much as you like. Changes in scale, touches of shading and imaginative embellishments make for a versatile tangle.
BTW, another apple-inspired tangle you might like to check out is CZT® Lori Manoogian’s Apacore which also contains a link to the recipe for my favorite (and easy!) dessert, Bavarian Apple Torte.
Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Core below where she also demonstrates several simple variations for this fun and festive tangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!

Happy Hanukkah!

Great tangle Beth. I have a scrap of paper with something similar, a basic idea I tangled yonks ago. Thanks for working it up into a proper tangle that I can use!
I like all the different variations on this tangle!
Thanks for the kind comments! Wow, this is a blast from the past. This is one of the first tangles I worked on. I just love the ZIA-glittery idea! I may have to try that!
Lots of variations, and fun!!! Thank you…
