Today’s another tangle bonus day! We have two cool triangle grid-based tangles from Australian artist Helen Williams, this one she’s named Queen B.
Stay tuned for Warre, coming up later. And be sure to check out all of Helen’s tangles on the site by clicking the live helenw tag which (for every tangle) you’ll find in the gray-colored publication date bar at the end of the post just above the comments section …
Helen explains that a few years ago she’d taken a course on “Natural Beekeeping” and recently re-discovered her notes included these patterns which she has since deconstructed for us to enjoy.
And where would we be without bees? Did you know that Zentangle® co-founder Rick Roberts is a dedicated beekeeper?
“Man has kept bees for thousands of years. It is a mature, well-established hobby for many and a business for others. Although bees face an uncertain future, humans have found a way to offer bees an environment that at least gives them a shot at survival and maybe even a chance to thrive.” ~ from theperfectbee.com
Another fascinating rabbit hole, or bee hive as the case may be …
From beekeeping to Queen B – seems a natural name for this tangle.
As noted Queen B is built on a triangle grid and if you’d like some assistance on drawing this type of grid, check out the diamond grid variation on “How to draw three types of grids for your Zentangles” – you’ll also find a free PDF to download there.
While it looks complicated, Queen B is very simple to create and looks quite different and dimensional depending on where you add graphite to it. I’ve turned my example 90° because (as we say) there’s no up or down in Zentangle® and it looks great this way too.
Helen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Queen B here on her blog where she includes one of her typical free-flowing illustrations of Queen B in use.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!
Check out the tag helenw for more of Helen’s tangles on TanglePatterns.com.
