Tofube is our cool tangle of the day and it’s from Taiwan CZT Damy (Mei Hua) Teng.
Damy is a prolific “tangle deconstructer” with Tofube being her 29th on the site. Most recently we explored her Peaooo tangle. Window Grilles was her first, from way back in April 2014 and there are many good ones in between.
An avid quilter, Damy explained her that inspiration for Tofube was “folded tofu quilts” and she sent along this example.
I wasn’t able to find out what tofu quilts are exactly although there is a popular book titled “Tofu Quilt“, written by Ching Yeung Russell a young woman in Hong Kong.
A collection of poems telling the story of Yeung Ying, a young girl in Hong Kong in the 1960s who, against the conventions of society and family members, aspires to become a writer.
So there you have it. If you can provide more enlightenment, please let us know! This is Damy’s example of Tofube in a ZIA.
Damy included “four styles of folded tofu quilts” below. I used the first for my example, and while shading provides the finishing touches of quilt fluffiness to Tofube, I went with an example that is totally sans shading because that looks cool too.
Damy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Tofube below where she features it in a beautifully shaded monotangle. Looks like stacks of cosy, fluffy duvets.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!
