DiamondX was deconstructed by Minnesota tangler Angie Whalen and this is her first pattern on the site.
Angie writes, “This border was inspired by a pattern on the window of my front door.
I first found out about Zentangle® about a year and a half ago when I read an article in the local newspaper about an art form that was helping someone with anxiety and depression. Since I had never heard of Zentangle so I did some research online and found out it was exactly what I was looking for. I have always like drawing, but I had a hard time figuring out what to draw, which is why Zentangle is perfect. Now I can draw something without having to worry about mistakes or what the end result will be.
Angie certainly captured the essence of Zentangle, it’s not about drawing some thing. It’s about making deliberate pen strokes one at a time and ending up with a lovely ensemble of harmonious patterns. You don’t even have to know what the end result looks like, you simply follow the steps in sequence and see where you end up. Guaranteed to be relaxed and delighted if you are following the Zentangle Method.
Here I used DiamondX as an all-over pattern by simply repeating the motifs next to each other. You could also leave space between each for another variation.
Angie illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing DiamondX here on flickr where she illustrates two versions. I used Angie’s second version as the starting point for my example.

I love the pattern DiamondX by Angie Whalen. It is versatile and pleasing to my eye. I loved the way you, Linda, described Zentangle when you said,”a lovely ensemble of harmonious patterns.” I totally agree and am duly impressed with Angie’s output.
Very nice pattern (both versions). Will make an excellent filler or boarder! Thank you for sharing.
Good job Angie!!!!
