Navaho is a new tangle pattern from South Carolina CZT Caren Mlot who shared her Spokes tangle with us last summer. Caren offers classes in the Mt. Pleasant and Charleston area and you can find her class schedule here.
As Caren points out, patterns are everywhere and once you become hooked by Zentangle® you can’t help but notice them everywhere. This pattern was inspired “by a picture in, of all places, a coloring book.”
Caren calls this pattern Navaho, “because it reminds me of a Navajo woven blanket. Spelling it with an ‘h’ is an alternate, rarely used spelling for the Native American tribe.”
Caren illustrates the steps for drawing Navaho here on her blog and shows Navaho in two Zentangle-inspired drawings with several variations. In the second one Caren recommends trying a Black Sakura Glaze pen, “my newly discovered treasure and lots of fun to use for accents“.
My example of Navaho uses Caren’s third variation – you’ll see there are lots of ways to play with this tangle. Enjoy!
Check out the tag carenm for more of Caren’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
