How to draw BRAYD

Zentangle pattern: BraydOne of the “tangle enhancers” taught by Zentangle® originators Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas (and CZTs) is the “sparkle“. You often find this enhancement in Maria’s Zentangles. Currently the other tangle enhancers are aura, dewdrop, perfs, rounding, and shading.

In her example of her Brayd tangle pattern Michele Beauchamp uses sparkle to great effect. I haven’t been able to draw it to my satisfaction at all. Part of the difficulty may be the small 3 cm scale I draw my examples but I need a whole lot more practice to make sparkles look natural. So this is my drawing completely sans sparkle and my apologies to Michele!

Michele’s tip for drawing Brayd is to puff out the pen strokes a bit. She illustrates the steps for drawing her sparkle-y Brayd, here. Michele features Brayd in three of her four Zentangles here.
