Queen’s Crown is a tangle created by CZT® Suzanne McNeill.
[2022 Note: Queen’s Crown is one of the very first tangles I published on the site in 2010, and as someone who had never drawn anything before my example for Queen’s Crown is pretty rudimentary but I leave it here, unretouched, as a reminder 🙂 that we all grow and progress with practice!]
Suzanne introduced Queen’s Crown in the very first booklet in her Zentangle® series, Zentangle Basics. Early in the Summer of 2014 Suzanne McNeill’s blog domain registration expired and all the posts and images were lost, including this one.
Many of her patterns like Queen’s Crown can quite easily be figured out but Fox Chapel Publishing (who hold the copyright) and Suzanne have graciously given me permission to post her copyright-protected images on TanglePatterns for your reference.
UPDATE: April 2022
Recently Welsh CZT Joanna Quincey submitted a pattern she named Akwa, “I imagine it to be the splashes that result when you drop something into a pool of water … hence the name AKWA (Aqua … water).”
Akwa turned out to be another way to tangle Suzanne’s Queen’s Crown and while I don’t usually (knowingly) publish duplicate patterns Joanna’s lovely illustration shows ways to embellish this tangle so I asked for her permission to add it to this page.
So with thanks to Joanna, here’s her illustration of how to tangle Queen’s Crown/Akwa with a tile featuring the Zentangle-original Knightsbridge together with the tangle enhancer orbs/perfs.
Joanna introduces herself,
I am an active CZT based in mid Wales, UK. I regularly teach online classes and run a very popular weekly online Tangle Club with between 30-40 participants from all over the world joining me each week.
I am very interested in encouraging the mindful approach to using the Zentangle Method and the wellbeing benefits that brings.
Above is Joanna’s ZIA Zendala featuring Apacore and Queen’s Crown/Akwa. You can find her here on her blog.
