The Canard tangle comes to us from Abigail Lalonde and this is her first pattern on TanglePatterns.
Canard works great as either a border or a fill pattern and you can vary it with different types of shading (I chose one for my example), and by using solid fills instead of the line work.
Abigail shares a little about herself and how she came up with her tangle: “Abigail is a former cook, turned stay at home mom from Upstate NY, with a passion for all things crafty or artistic. She hopes to someday be able to share her love of Zentangle and art in general with her son.
… A little while ago my husband brought home a John Le Carre book from the library; it was one of those vintage hardcover books, with a very interesting all over pattern. This pattern stuck in my head as I tangled, and I just had to see if I could replicate it. I’ve named it Canard, which is French for duck. as the pattern reminds me of little tessellating duckies.”
Where Abigail see abstract ducks in the white spaces, I see pinwheel flags in between — it all depends on how you look at it, as they say.
Here are Abigail’s step-by-step instructions for drawing Canard, and her lovely Zentangle® incorporating her tangle.
Thanks for sharing, Abigail!

how do I copy and print JUST the diagrams for each pattern? thank you
Right click on the image and save it to your computer for printing. Happy tangling!
OR, right click on each one separately doing a “copy” with your right click, then paste it into “Word” and you can have them both on the same page.
Thanks Estelle!
