This lovely vine-like tangle is from CZT® Jane Dickinson and it’s her first pattern on TanglePatterns.
Scrawlz is one of the immense variety of patterns possible from starting with a basic wavy line motif – or as Jane mentions, a mathematical sine wave – and adding embellishments as the pattern grows. Condensing or stretching the underlying wavy line creates an even wider variety of possibilities.
Allow Jane to introduce herself …
“I am a CZT in Providence, RI. I have been a landscape designer, and am a parent, textile artist and published author.
From monoprinting on textiles, I moved to the smaller format of hand-carved stamps, and have explored the concept of Notan through all my printing explorations. I enjoyed creating altered books and art journals. For a while I wrote and published my own art ‘zine, Ink and Ruminations.
For me Zentangle has been both a culmination and a reduction. My Zentangle drawings are informed by a lifetime of admiration for the arts and thus in a way are complex, but returning to the simplicity of black ink and white paper has been enormously refreshing. I feel as though I can take Zentangle in any direction and find something beautiful and intriguing there.
I’m very grateful to inventors Maria and Rick for the energy they have devoted and joy they bring to Zentangle, as well as the high standards they hold for its integrity.“
Jane illustrates the steps for drawing her Scrawlz tangle, here.
