It’s Friday!! And this afternoon the USA women face France in what should be an exciting quarter-final FIFA match in Paris – we’ll be watching! The Italy-Netherlands, and Germany-Sweden quarter-finals are tomorrow = more exciting viewing. 🙂
Also this weekend Canadians everywhere are celebrating Canada Day on Monday, July 1st, with a nice long summer holiday. So it seems fitting to explore a tangle from a Canadian today.
An easy tangle for your Friday, Wildwood is from Canadian CZT Margaret Bremner.
I had this tangle planned for today so it was a serendipitous coincidence that Wednesday’s All Stars was inspired by another of Margaret’s tangles. Wildwood uses the same “take off and land” type of S stroke too.
She explains her tangle’s inspiration,
This pattern was inspired by a carpet design at the Wildwood Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon.
(If I’m not mistaken, Margaret has since moved from Saskatchewan to the west coast’s province of British Columbia.)
Wildwood is actually a kind of grid/reticula — a blank slate you can use to fill and embellish any way you choose, even with a graphite fill, or leave it simply looking “web-like”. Lots of possibilities!
Margaret illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Wildwood here on her blog where she includes a picture of the carpet inspiring her tangle.
In her post Margaret refers to a tangle by CZT Sandy Hunter (Wunderwall) which was not included on TanglePatterns because it had already been published, although not online at that point, in January 2010 as Hemp by CZT Sandy Bartholomew in her Totally Tangled book.

Well, I guess I’m not so old that I can’t still be surprised! I own “Totally Tangled”, recommend it, sell it… yet hadn’t noticed the tangle Hemp in it! Perhaps what struck me about Wunderwall when I saw it was the empty circles it begins with.
Having just now drawn Wildwood, I see what Margaret means about drawing the triangles individually versus using the line grid. While I did manage to use the grid, I had to really focus on it after I did the initial lines, figuring out where to make the triangles. Nonetheless, it’s a fun tangle, and a simple one (once my “brainium” cooperates and sees things the correct way :-D), and I’ll be enjoying this one.
Thanks for another fun tangle, tho I too had to draw each triangle seperate to get the best results. The grid is a bit confusing for my simple brain or else what I did was a different tangle. Never the less, fun.
Often, I like to add some colours on my tiles and I think this one gives a wonderful challenge to use colours. I’m going to try it tomorrow!
