How to draw 4MOM

Zentangle pattern: 4Mom. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. All rights reserved.Naturally I realize that Mother’s Day was this past Sunday but 4MOM is an easy tangle for any old time and hold on until you see all the fun ways you can go with this one.

You might recognize Arizona CZT Jane Eileen Malone’s name from the fiber arts magazines she’s had her artistry published in: Haute Handbags, Art Quilting Studio, and Sew Somerset to name a few.

Jane Eileen came up with 4MOM when she set out to create a tangle pattern for some “Zen friends”.

I was playing around, drawing ideas trying to decide what route to take. I wanted something beginners to advanced people might enjoy.

When I finally came up with a plan, I took out my red Micron to make the steps, and the word ‘MoM’ jumped out at me. Since I intended to give it to them [on Mother’s Day weekend] I knew I had to call it 4MOM.

There are just two steps to creating 4MOM, and it can be used as a border or ribbon tangle or stacked in various ways, which Jane Eileen will show you in a moment, to create an all-over pattern which is what I did with my example.

Jane Eileen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing 4MOM here on her blog, along with a Zentangle®, a Zendala, and a ZIA piece showing 4Mom in all sorts of wonderful ways. 4MOM is quite addictive, so look out!

If you’re in the Glendale AZ area, be sure to check out Jane Eileen’s upcoming classes.

And Jane Eileen will be back here tomorrow with String 157, so tune in for that one!

What a versatile tangle pattern! Thanks for sharing.

I am loving this pattern, just having fun with it. I started a stacked and tangled piece that I am using to experiment with color combinations. Addictive pattern! This is one of the first patterns that I decided to try *without* doing a lot of preliminary pencil work. I’m trying to get more courageous just jumping in with the micron pen and not using a pencil/eraser first! (I am a perfectionist. Sigh.) This pattern made me feel comfortable and more free to play. Thanks, Jane Eileen!

Great tangle! I had fun from the beginning with it.

It never ceases to amaze me how I can see a tangle pattern that I think will be a pain in the butt to draw, and then when I see the step-outs, it’s so simple & fun. This is one of those! Love it.
