How to draw GOTTAGO

Simple and striking! Gottago comes from Australian CZT Lianne Woods.

Lianne’s inspiration for Gottago was some floor tiles and on her blog she explains the whole story which also accounts for the name of her tangle pattern.

For my example I used one of Lianne’s variations of Gottago from her third tile. One thing I learned by trial and error was that you need to make sure the ends of your rectangles in each grid square in Steps 2 and 3 are offset enough from each other in order to get angled lines in Step 5. If the rectangles align opposite each other you don’t get the same effect at all. This apparent gobbledygook will make all kinds of sense to you when you look at the steps.

Gottago is a very simple grid-based tangle with a wide variety of variations and Lianne illustrates several very interesting ones with her step-by-step instructions here on her blog. I particularly like the border variation she includes in her middle tile example. Lianne’s third tile also includes Florz, the Zentangle-original tangle, and CZT Angie Vangalis’s lovely Paizel.
