In this 5 minute video CZT Suzanne McNeill demonstrates how she prepares a drawing on card stock to be glued onto wood bird forms she discovered to create some sweet Spring décor.
Suzanne uses a Sakura Graphic 1 pen for this Zentangle-inspired craft project.
Fox Publishing appears to be recycling all of Suzanne’s earlier Design Originals Zentangle-related booklets as “Expanded Workbook Editions” so watch for the updated titles as they appear.
The paper in the new editions has changed from the shiny coated stock to an uncoated stock making it easier to draw in the book without smudging. Of course it can’t compete with the official Zentangle tiles, but it does serve the purpose for practicing.

I fell in love with these birds when I found them in the wood department at Michaels.
TIP: The larger Michaels stores seem to have a better supply.
If you can’t find the wooden birds, punch a small hole in the top of a pair of back-to-back birds and hang them from a string as a mobile. It is also cute to dangle a few beads from the bottom of the birds.

Love this! The videos from Suzanne are always so fun to watch! The idea for doing these for Easter is a great idea! I went looking, lots of companies on eBay, also Michael’s, A.C.Moore, etc have them. Some are the ‘chunky’ with legs, others are a thinner, legless model. Those might be cute ‘strung & hung’! I actually did something similar to this and gave as a gift…I glued a lil heart as the wing to give a bit more dimension. …thanks again Linda, and Suzanne, for more inspiring projects and spreading the Zentangle love!
