How to draw PHEN

I think we’re a little overdue for a grid-based tangle and Phen makes for a very nice contrast in style from the last few. This is another great tangle pattern from West Virgina tangler Beth Snoderly.

“I was playing with parentheses and squares and Phen came along. Variations would be to place the triangle accents in opposite corners and to shade inside or outside of the oval created by the parentheses,” Beth writes.

For my example I used Beth’s variation described above (shown in Step 6 below) and also the shading. I love the look of this one and, as with almost every grid-based tangle, you can use it for a border pattern too.
