This sweet tangle pattern, Borbz, comes to us from new CZT Rita Nikolajeva and it’s her first on the site.
Rita is one of two CZTs in Belgium, she’s based in Brussels and Jella Verelst is north of Antwerp in Kalmthout. Jella is a graduate of the very first class of Certified Zentangle® Teachers.
Borbz is an easy tangle to draw and Rita shows several ways you can vary it. She called it Borbz “because it’s a Border of squished Orbs :)” A border of really big orbs.
“My Zentangle adventure started from an urgent need to balance out other aspects of my life, which is mostly ‘words, words, words’, me being a conference interpreter working for the European Institutions in Brussels. I have dabbled in watercolour, acrylics, multimedia, beading, crocheting… you name it! It was fun, but still something was missing. Then, in mid-2012, I stumbled over Zentangle… and have been tangling ever since. And it seemed so right to become a CZT.
As so many before me, I’d love to share this wonderful experience. I plan to give courses in Brussels (mainly), as far as my busy work schedule will permit it. But being an interpreter has its perks: I can offer courses in English, German, French, Latvian and Russian.“
As always, you can locate the list of Certified Zentangle Teachers in the left sidebar of the site under the heading SOURCE WEBSITES and you can find Rita’s contact info there.
Rita illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing her Borbz tangle here on flickr where she’s known as terem13.

This will be a fun one to draw. Not to be gross, but they look like my eye balls after I’ve been squinting in bright light for hours, LOL!
This is an awesome tangle! Thanks so much for sharing!
I’ve drawn Borbz already a few times. It is a very nice and pleasant pattern, I like it very much.
What a fun border tangle! I like to use orbs for borders. . . This will add some variety to my usual tangles. Thank you for sharing! I am amazed at the number of languages Rita knows well enough to translate! What a blessing that is!
