This tangle pattern is from Donna Blair and it’s her first on the site.
“I was stuck on hold on the phone and picked up a pen and paper and this developed. As I was practicing it and trying to think of a name, my friend asked if I was making lanterns. So, that’s why I named it Lantern.”
I used Donna’s “attached rows” version of Lantern and I’ve shown my example “sideways” – because there’s no up or down to tangles. There are a lot of ways you can vary this tangle, I also tried it on a much smaller scale it works well that way too.
Here are Donna’s steps for drawing Lantern and she also demonstrates a few variations. (Yes, the basic pattern is complete in 3 steps.)
Here is Donna’s Zentangle-inspired drawing featuring Lantern, and a couple of official tangles.
Check out the tag donnab for more of Donna’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.

The new tangles are always a joy to receive and I sincerely appreciate them. Thanks Donna Blair (and all the other artists) for contributing.
yep,I like this one, it has many possible variations to play with.
At present I am thousands of kms from home, helping my son and daughter-in-law, while she undergoes radiotherapy for a rare form of cancer on the jaw. In all honestly, I am everlastingly glad I brought my tangling “stuff” with me, as their household consists of three boys from 13, to 11 down to 14 months and although wonderful kids all, very ‘exuberant’!!!
I would be lost without tangling every day, while the bub is napping I get to feel some calm and rejuvenation, ready for the next onslaught. I love them all to bits…….but whew, at 70 I’m not used to chasing after a toddler ! Thanks to tangling I am managing. I fly home on the 15th December so after five weeks I am on the downhill run, as I miss my man sorely, having never been apart for so long in 51 years!!
Thankfully I will be home for Christmas…….which reminds me, has anyone tangled a christmas tree shape, would love to see what eventuates ! ?
Such a good tangle! Just a few easy steps and grow into endles varity of structures
Very nice tangle…I will certainly try this one…seems you can go wild with variations “)
