Hello again and welcome back to explore our lovely Friday tangle.
Windflowers is from CZT Di Zhang from Shanghai, China, and it’s her first on the site.
Did you know that Shanghi’s population is the world’s third largest city and China’s largest? It’s an amazing city to learn about.
Di introduces herself and shares how she discovered Zentangle®:
I am employed at a manufacturing company and have a passion for drawing. However, due to my demanding work schedule, I rarely found the time to pursue this interest until I stumbled upon Zentangle artwork online. Intrigued by the unique patterns, I decided to explore this art form further. At that moment, enrollment for ASIA-Seminar #10 CZT training was open, prompting me to apply immediately and ultimately become a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT).
Through my exploration of Zentangle, I have come to appreciate a novel artistic expression method known as Zentangle. This drawing technique aligns perfectly with my preferences, as it does not necessitate extensive time commitments, advanced artistic skills, or an abundance of materials to produce captivating and aesthetically pleasing works. Additionally, I have had the pleasure of connecting with numerous individuals who are also engaged in learning and promoting Zentangle. It brings me joy that my creations can be shared with others. I hope that Zentangle can help more people and bring pleasant feelings to the experience of drawing creativity.
Here Di explains the inspiration for her tangle:
I’ve always wanted to create a tangle pattern. I discovered inspiration when I observed a roof supported by a tent structure. This design not only transforms simple patterns but also generates an array of diverse forms.
As you will see from Di’s examples below, Windflowers is a tangle that can keep growing outwards to fill a whole tile. For my example I rather liked the look of the second layer of Fescu-fronds without the auras and connecting arc of Di’s steps 4-5 so I stopped at that point. A Zendala or Zentangle tile has the optimal real estate to add the layers Di demonstrates in her examples.
Di illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Windflowers below where she features it in a lovely Renaissance Zendala and two beautiful tiles.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.
