Socc is a tangle pattern created by CZT® Erin Olson of Windsor, CA, and this is her first pattern on TanglePatterns.
“I discovered Zentangle about 6 months ago and have been unable to stop ever since. I find that Zentangle® is a welcome break from my primary job as a 911 paramedic and I love teaching it to others. I became a Certified Zentangle Teacher in October 2011 and am enjoying teaching classes and spreading the word about this amazing artform!”
Erin tells us that Socc was inspired by CZT Carole Ohl’s Puf and relates that as she was tangling a section in her Moleskine Japanese Journal, “I thought Puf would do nicely and since I didn’t have a computer handy I just did it from memory.” Socc was the serendipitous result of her efforts.
Puf begins with a grid, and Erin’s original pattern is also drawn with a grid’s squares or rectangles as the basis. I found that any shapes work with Socc, in this example I broke the grid into triangular shapes. I added shading to both of these examples and I also played with a version that simply used random lines in all directions and tangled in the resulting shapes. I like how “anything goes” with this tangle.
Erin illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing her Socc tangle pattern here.
