How to draw OLIPZE

Zentangle pattern: Olipze. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Olipze is an interesting and unusual new tangle from New York CZT Jody Genovese, it’s her fourth tangle on the site.

Jody writes that she deconstructed Olipze after browsing through a book on tiling and patterns and the terminology was getting pretty technical …

It was really getting into the weeds for me …  I stumbled across a couple of words I did recognize, those being open and ellipse.

I combined them to be Olipze as nothing flashy was coming to mind.

Introducing Bijou!Olipze requires a bit of practice to get going, but once you observe the patterns of the spacing and the consistent angles of all those rice shapes you’ll be off to the races.

(Slow races, this is Zentangle!)

Jody illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Olipze below where she includes three beautiful Zentangle tiles featuring Olipze in various configurations. The first tile includes the Zentangle-originals Diva Dance and Purk with some Tipple-y orbs and Zinger-y bits, the center tile is a cool monotangle and the third uses Olipze as a grid framework filled with more Zentangle-original tangles including Florz and Paradox.

Martha Stewart’s blog features post about Zentangle

Earlier this year Zentangle co-founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas were interviewed by freelance writer Alexandra Lim-Chua Wee for the blog at MarthaStewart.com.

Check out Alexandra’s article posted last week: Try Zentangle: Your New De-Stressing Method, and be sure to leave a comment!

As Rick says, “Your comments will demonstrate the interest in Zentangle and may inspire a follow-up with Martha Stewart.

There are 3,000 CZTs worldwide and tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of Zentangle enthusiasts, surely we can act on Rick’s request and get a few hundred comments ???
