Tangle Refresher 132 – Featuring don’t give up on a tangle …

Tangle Refresher!

In a relaxed summer mood I’m sharing more thoughts from past Refreshers, this one from two years ago …

Today I thought I’d simply share a bit of wisdom from The Book of Zentangle that’s worth taking to heart.

As you tangle, let your focus be on the stroke you are drawing at that moment, instead of on the pattern or the final result.”

If a tangle feels awkward, stay with it and watch what happens. Many tanglers assume they won’t enjoy a particular tangle, but after playing with it, it becomes their favorite.

Don’t give up on a tangle just because you “think” you don’t care for it, or it “looks” too complicated.

Chances are you will be very pleasantly surprised. Real tangles are easy to draw, one stroke at a time.

Focus. That’s the secret.”

And a reminder that if you don’t yet have the new Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, you owe it to yourself to get a copy. As tangler Kris H said after she received her copy,

“Absolutely the best Zentangle Book yet! As an accomplished artist I used to think I did not need instruction on this art form. How wrong I was! My tangling improved by leaps and bounds after reading this book. If you think you have Zentangle down then you need this book more than ever!” ~ Kris H

The Tangle Refresher series, aka Buried Treasure, spotlights hidden tangle gems from the past. It can remind you of tangles you might not have used for a while or introduce you to some you haven’t come across yet.

Here are five more tangle pattern gems and a Tangle Refresher from a year (or two) ago for your tangling pleasure. Remember to check out the “More Good Stuff” links below too.

BTW as you visit these tangles please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. And please share a link to your favorite tangles with your followers on all your social media. Thanks!

Zenful tangling!

Can anyone send me the link on how to change the tip of your pen to get more ink out of it.
Am loving Zentangle. Thanks to everyone for the beautiful tangles and ideas. You are all very much appreciated.

Hi Annette, visit the pink alphabetic tangle menu bar and click on the TUTORIALS tab. You can scan down the tutorials to locate the link you’re interested in. It’s there as a “Frugal Friday” tip. 🙂

Found it Linda. But me oh my I cannot get the black end off.
Tip came out very easily but just afraid to pull to hard on the end. Thanks for the help.

Great information here Linda. What Maria says about not giving up on a tangle is so right. I’ve put some tangles aside that I was having trouble with and then gone back later (maybe even a year) and it just falls right out of the pen onto the paper with no problem. I think our hands and eyes and brain start working together better the more we practice and the more we let go of an outcome.

Also, the Zentangle Primer Vol. 1 is great! I was going through it one step at a time, like we do with Zentangle ;-). Suddenly I noticed it was all coming together much better. Something clicked for me and I noticed a huge improvement in the whole process, from putting pen to paper to just doing one stroke at a time.

Thanks for all the work you do on this site Linda. It has helped me tremendously on my Zentangle path.
