How to draw ANTIQUE

Antique is a simple, graceful tangle from CZT Kathy Barringer of Albany NY.

Kathy writes, “Like my ‘Up n’ Down‘ pattern, it was inspired by a carving on a chest on the Antiques Roadshow” television program. “It’s quick and easy (my favorite kind of tangle), but has a very elegant look.”

A couple of strokes for the outer bands, a string of rice shapes down the center and you’re practically done! There are some tangles that really blossom when you add shading and Antique is one of those.

Many new tanglers have recently discovered the two-part TanglePatterns Shading Mini-Clinics and are finding them very helpful. Shading in Zentangle® doesn’t have to follow “the art rules” of light sources etc. and these detailed tutorials by CZTs Marizaan van Beek and Sandy Barthlomew show how to achieve pleasing results. This pretty tangle pattern can be woven like a ribbon flowing through your Zentangle and it can also be placed side-by-side in columns to fill a section of your tile.

Kathy illustrates the steps for drawing Antique below and shows us some simple ways to vary her tangle.
