How to draw SWIRLY

Zentangle pattern: Swirly. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. Here’s a sweet pattern I found while I was reviewing my archives recently, as I do on a regular basis.

Swirly is a tangle pattern by Minnesota tangler Angie Whalen, who also shared her more recent DiamondX tangle with us. As I wrote then and it’s worth repeating for those of you who are new to Zentangle®:

“Angie certainly captured the essence of Zentangle, it’s not about drawing some thing. It’s about making deliberate pen strokes one at a time and ending up with a lovely ensemble of harmonious patterns. You don’t even have to know what the end result looks like, you simply follow the steps in sequence and see where you end up. Guaranteed to be relaxed and delighted if you are following the Zentangle Method.”

This is a very easy grid pattern that’s somewhat similar to Rosé but the swirls or spirals are drawn vertically rather than in the corners of the grid squares. Then Angie adds an aura outlining the spirals. And I added some strokes to fill the space between. Can’t resist playing 😉

Angle demonstrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Swirly here on her flickr account.

Check out the tag angiew for more of Angie’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
