Can’t get enough Mooka?
In this new video from Sakura, Zentangle® founder and world renowned lettering artist Maria Thomas creates a monogrammed letter “B” decorated with her Mooka tangle.
The video is a demonstration for Sakura’s new Micron Pigma Calligrapher pens. The pens come in 3 widths – 1 mm, 2mm and 3 mm nib widths – and six archival waterproof ink colors: black, red, royal blue, hunter green, sepia, purple. In the video Maria uses the “30″ (3 mm) nib, along with our trusty 01 Micron.
Watching Maria draw Mooka is a great way to learn the tangle and get a good idea of how to manage the “drawing behind” part of tangle patterns. Notice too, how Maria turns her piece as she goes along – good thing to remember while drawing your Zentangles. Turn, turn, turn that tile for comfort!

This beautiful. She does make it look easy. About the left-handed work: my husband is left-handed. He had to learn from a special book how to do this. The book is no longer in print. It is called Left-handed Calligraphy. I hope that helps.

Hi Lefty’s, I too have struggled for years being left handed and loving calligraphy. Look for the suggested book on Amazon used. Hobby Lobby usually has a lefty calligraphy book. Some are better than others. The hard part, or the key for lefty’s is to practice holding your calligraphy pen at a weird, kinda awkward 65 degree angle. You will get the “righty’s” calligraphy angle. Then find what works for you.
